Pregnancy and Exercise

Working out while pregnant is a strange thing. Some days, I feel great and other days…well I’m waddling and can barely stand up straight. Both my pregnancy with Charlie and now with baby boy I am doing as best I can to stay active.

Active to me, while carrying another human, means something so different than active while not pregnant. Right now it means, doing something intentional that makes me move. Somedays that is a gentle yoga/stretching, other days it means a brisk couple mile walk and some strength training, and some days it means I made it around the block with the dog who stopped and sniffed every blade of grass with the thought of hey – at least I got up.

Generally though, when I sync my work schedule and workout schedule it looks something like this…

Weekday and working – 1.5-2mi walk with baby girl in the stroller before I head into work. I don’t have to be at work till 9:30 so by no means am I waking up super super early to make this happen.

Weekday and not working – 2mi walk with baby girl in the stroller and a quick strength training workout. Usually with light weights or strictly body weight.

Weekend and working – maybe some stretching or a quick/short walk with the dog in the evening since I have to be at work earlier on the weekend.

Weekend and not working – 3ish mile family walk while pushing baby girl in the stroller.

If you’re an expecting mom or a seasoned mom, what did your exercise routine look like?
